Okay, who's seen the Suave commercial that states that 89% of mothers have let themselves go? Is it not hilarious? I crack up everytime it's on tv. I remember thinking when I was pregnant that there was no way that I would ever let myself go. I'm not just referring to my size- I'm really referring to what I wear sometimes out in public. Last week I went to Wal-mart and looked down, my old delta sigma t-shirt had a hole in it, and I think I could have passed for being homeless.
Most every morning, as long as Emery and I don't have any major plans, I start out in workout clothes. Sometimes, this forces me to actually workout, but then there are those days where that doesn't work out for some reason, and I stay in these workout clothes, literally all day! I might go to the grocery, library, or mall dressed like I rolled out of bed. I feel like, without fail, those are the times you run into someone you know!
So anyways, I went to the Suave website to see if I could post that commercial. Instead I found the following:
http://www.suave.com/pledge.aspx
It might seem kind of silly, but I really liked this pledge. No, for those of you who think I'm a dork, I didn't actually sign it, but it did remind me that it's okay to take time for myself each day!
P.S. If I see any of you out, please don't look to see if I've showered or if I'm dressed presentable. It could be that I have tried, and it doesn't look like it at all! Baby steps, baby steps

Have you let yourself go?

The Big 3-0!
Here the birthday boy is supposed to be packing, but instead he decided that my side of the closet needed to be "de-cluttered!" He's such a big help! ; ) No, he truly is a very big help!
The birthday boy many, many, many years ago!
Emery sitting with Nana (Jim's mama) and Pop (my dad) at the party.
This was the best picture we got of Jim being surprised.
My aunt made the cake. It was so good!Okay, so this is my 9th time to try to post! No joke. If this doesn't work, I quit!
Emery and I returned from the beach just in time to celebrate Jim's 30th birthday! He's a St. Patty's boy! Before we left town, I threw him a small surprise party. I started thinking that he was on to something, but turns out I was just being paranoid! He was very surprised!
On Friday night, we went out with Bobby& Melissa and Robert &Katie. We had a great time. It was really nice eating without trying to hold and entertain kiddos! We even got to go listen to Henry for a while too, which Jim loved!
Saturday, we had yet another "party." My grandmother treated us to a few games of bowling. (another one of Jim's favorites) She then made us some yummy enchiladas. And guess who was the best bowler...... My grandmother! She's very, very good! She beat us all! I think overall, Jim had a great birthday! If it were up to me, we would still be celebrating! This was a big one!

The lens on my digital camera is cracked. I'm not sure how I managed that, but it really doesn't surprise me! I feel like I break everything. So, I will have to post some pictures from the beach once I get them developed. Emery and I had a wonderful time. This week we are enjoying great weather, and the fact that we are living in the same city with our husband/daddy!

What was that?
Jim has started a new job, so he's been in Atlanta for training the last 4 weeks. This was his last week, and he should be home any minute. We are really ready for him to live with us again!
So, last night, once the sun went down, I made sure that my doors were locked and that all the blinds were closed. I like to have the dogs in the house with me, because they don't let anyone even look at the house without barking. We live in a very safe neighborhood, but still.
This was weeknight 15 without Jim here, so Emery and I were getting used to doing things at night without him. Emery's went down at 9:00 and I then had a few hours to get some stuff done before bed. I decided to read until about 11:30 or so. Well, I hear a very loud thud about that time. Not just one thud, but about six. I knew whatever/whoever had made that noise could have easily knocked down the back door. It was loud!
Well, we all know what we do.... pull the covers up to our eyeballs and then we can hear our heart beating so fast that if someone were trying to get in, the sound of the hearbeat would give away our location.
So after I have convinced myself that this is the beginning of the end, I come up with the following options:
Run to Emery's room (then what?)
grab the unloaded rifle under our bed ( oooh scary!)
run let the dogs out of their cage
call someone, but who?
sit in bed
I did the latter. I convinced myself that maybe the thud was "someone" just stealing my car. That would be very much an inconveinence, but as long as "they" just leave us alone, take what you want. And then I thought, well maybe "they" are taking the old fishing boat parked in the driveway. Jim would be sad, but it would be okay with me!
Well after half an hour or so, I calmed down. I'd heard no footsteps, and no one entered my bedroom, so I felt that maybe I had somewhat overreacted. Emery then started crying (cutting some teeth I think) and I went and got her VERY quickly and very willingly put her in bed with me. Why is it that I think having her in bed with me will make me feel safer? I don't know, but for some reason it does. I was able to finally fall asleep around 2.
This morning, I woke before Emery and walked into the den. Guess what the thud was?
The mirror over our couch fell off the wall. (Sorry for the sideways picture) I laughed. Why is it that everything always is ten times worse/scarier at night?
So all of you who routinely sleep without your spouse (Amy Hall) pat yourselves on the back! I'm not sure I could do it!
Enjoy this beautiful weather! Emery and I are headed to the beach for a few days!

What was I thinking?
1) Why I thought that our family of 2 (not including Emery because she doesn't eat) needed this much peanut butter even though it was buy one get one free. (net weight 5 lbs.- no joke! I mean, come on Elizabeth!)
2) Why I think my 22 month old is really ready to help me cook!
So, Emery has/had been in a really funky mood the last couple of days. I know that she misses her daddy. He's been down in Atlanta the past 3 weeks for training. I also think that the terrible 2's are coming!
So, yesterday I thought I would let her help me make peanut butter cookies- put all that peanut butter to use! Of course I don't need them, but thought that would maybe ease Emery into liking peanut butter. I thought I would be a fun mommy and let her "help" me! Needless to say it was a mistake! We were both grumpy after this mess!
Please excuse how I post pictures... I haven't perfected this at all!
